“No! I will not marry Favern!” Riel shouted at her grandfather, disregarding the fact that Favern’s father was present as well.
“But dear child, Favern is perfect for you. He is the son of my most trusted advisor. He is the leader of the royal guard. He has always scored high marks in school-- ” King Sandoval started to explain except he was cut off by his granddaughter.
“I will NOT marry Mr. Perfect!” And with that, Princess Riel stormed out of the room.

It was that deciding conversation that caused Riel to decide to run away from home. Not only did her grandfather, King Sandoval, want her to marry a man that she had grown to hate. (“Oh you should be more like Favern, Riel!”) King Sandoval also wanted her to give up her pursuits of martial arts. Riel did not just want to marry well and eventually inherit the throne because of her bloodline. She wanted to make something of herself.
And so to leave her grandfather’s domain, Riel bought a ruby gemstone from a Tellerian merchant. With a small pack of cloths, some gold and a bag of food, Riel held onto the gemstone and was transported to Alyria.
The sidhe princess sought out the best teachers of the land and learned all the techniques of a valkyrie. She honed her skills acting as a bringer of justice of Lady Templeton and often fought with other adventurers in friendly bouts in the arena.
One day, she met a fey named Neraka. He seemed to be a loner when she first observed him but then later on she found him to be always surrounded by girls. She was instantly attracted to his aloof manner. Within a month, they fell in love though circumstance delayed the handfasting and marriage until much later (Neraka needed to meet and gain approval from Riel’s family).
When Riel and Neraka finally did get married, they bought a house together in New Rigel and started to look for a clan to settle down in. They chose Northstar for its members’ upright virtues and friendly demeanors.
