Why is the tag “owner-only” good?

If you drop your horse, no one else can pick it up but you. You can transfer ownership by giving or mailing the horse to another person. The only caveat is that the owner-tag resets after reboot so anyone can pick up a horse after reboot.

This means you can drop it by accident, drop it and not sit down immediately, get cpked with it in your inventory and not worry about the horse being stolen.

If you get cpked and the horse was in your inventory it will simply drop on the ground and the cpker wouldn’t be able to pick it up. You can go back and get it after the coast is clear. If however your horse was in a bag that can be cpked, the cpker will be able to get the bag although they can not take the horse out of the bag (until reboot). If you don’t have a cpk-proof container, it is suggested that you keep your horse in your inventory and not in a bag.

Why is the tag “save-location” good?

“Save-location” means if it is found on the ground before reboot, it will remain on the ground after reboot. Most items are not save-location and will disappear if it’s on the ground during reboot.

If for example you dropped your horse somewhere in the wilds. It will still be there after reboot if you are unlucky enough that a reboot happens before you find your horse. This will not be the case if you owned a Broom of Baba Yaga. A broom on the ground would just disappear.

Tips so you will not lose your horse:

1. If you are a faerie, you will be thrown off your horse (mid-flight) when you get burned by iron. So put your iron items in a bag before flying.

2. Your horse will be left on the ground when an agro-mob attacks you in the wilds. Either wear improved invisibility equipment (wizard cloak) or just remember to pick up your horse as soon as start combat. This is particularly true when flying through mountainous terrain (yetis and atronachs are tough especially at low levels). This also applies to when archon hunters attack you in the wilds.

3. The wooden rocking horse has the keywords “rocking” and “horse.” When trying to drop the air reagent “feather of the roc,” always drop all.fea not all.roc. If you drop all.roc you will also drop your rocking horse if it is in your inventory.

4. If you are in unfamiliar terrain (faerie plane or underground), be cautious where you drop your horse. Drop 1 gold before dropping your horse because in some rooms items dropped will disappear.

5. Be careful when you are flying on your horse while at the same time spamming one of quest bags (vandemaar’s bag, vandemaar’s bottle or bag of tricks). The extra weight/number of the items from the bags might make you unable to pick up your horse when you reach your destination. Try to remember to make sure you pick up your horse after using it.

6. Make your gaming client have a large buffer. If you do lose your horse you can search for it using ctf+f.

7. (Optional) Some people look at their sextant everytime their horse moves to a different room while they fly.

If you do lose your horse:

1. If you dropped your horse in a vanish-drop location. Log the incident and email admin@materiamagica.com. If they are in a good mood they might replace the horse.

2. If you don’t know where you dropped your horse, first thing is look in all your bags. Then make sure you’re not holding the horse in your hand. This can happen when you wear all after you die.

3. If you still can’t find your horse use the ctr+f command and search for Rocking Horse or whatever you the restrung name for the item is. This is when a big buffer will help.

4. If ctr+f does not work and you know what area you lost your horse in. You can try praying for help. If an immortal is in an exceptionally good mood they might help you locate it. Don’t expect anything though.

5. Last resort: shout in the area(s) where you think you could have lost your horse in and see if anyone has seen your horse. A kind hearted player might point you in the right direction.
