Boomerangs can be used via the 'throw' command, or they can be wielded. While wielded, boomerangs act just like any other weapon, but they can be used in the back of formations.
If bolas can randomly cast a 'web' type spell, then these weapons might be useful. However, they do not... and other weapon proficiencies are available to the Archon.
Magical wands tend to have more accuracy and do more damage than other non-archon weapons. The quest wand from Lord Vendredi is usually the first thing new Archons look for. Wands are a staple for the archon, and should be used widely.
Maul is used for large hammers similar to maces. You need both hands free to wield these type of weapons.
For slug throwers, similar to bows, no ammunition is needed to use these.
A good two-handed sword is found on Archon Hunters, called an ice-covered broadsword. Two-handed weapons (swords and axes) typically do a lot more raw damage than any other one-handed weapon.
If you are after damage (and who isn't?), two-handed axes are what you are looking for. These axes can do upwards of 400 damage if the right axe is used, the strength of the character is high, and the proficiency of the skill is near mastery. Good two-handed axes are rare and should be saved for player-killing or fighting extremely hard mobs.
