Botanicus' Guide to Mob-Killing - Preparation

Reagents

As any good spell caster knows, you need reagents to be successful. When fighting a large mob make sure you have ample reagents available so that you don't run out in combat. On a similar note, spell casters should also memorize their spells so that they are not juggling spell books in a fight. This is doubly important for healing spells such as cure blind and cure critical. For those with herbalism, prepare mixtures such as high explosive and calm to aid you in combat as well as any other mixtures you may use.

After getting reagents, make sure you have the best armor available to you, this includes stacking AR spells such as stone skin, shield, armor and combat blink. Whenever possible, use the Druid armor spells as they provide the best protection possible. As well as AR spells you should also invest in sanctuary and fire shield. Sanctuary will absorb an extra 20% of the damage dealt while fire shield will flare during combat, causing extra damage. The spells protection from good and protection from evil are also helpful against high level mobs if your alignment is the inverse of theirs (i.e. if you are 'Angelic' fighting Azathoth), this can provide an extra 5% damage reduction in damage.

Make sure that when fighting a large mob you use the best weapon available to you, this is typically a lance, axe, spear, dagger or sword. Pay attention to the weaknesses of the mobs you fight though. If you are fighting a Dracon for example, even though you may do 250 damage with your axe, if you use the blade of ice and do 200 damage naturally, you will cause 300 damage to the Dracon simply because of his vulnerability to ice attacks. Later on we will provide a partial list of weapons that do elemental damages. Be sure to use a shield as well, specifically for those who bash or versus mobs with weapons or that cast projective spells such as fireball.

Area

Be aware of the area in which you will be fighting. A CPK area has much higher consequences than other areas. Some questions to consider when analyzing the room:

  1. Is it PK?
  2. What exits are available
  3. Is it dizzy?
  4. How many mobs are in the room? Will more come in?
  5. What players are nearby

If the room is CPK, make sure you are not wearing expensive equipment before you go in. If you are, be ready to lose it because you most likely will. To guard against CPK items like the magical belt pouch, Vandemaar's Trunk, and the mahogany puzzle box, as well as any other containers that cannot be removed from your person, are very helpful.
