- Can I PK?
- There are many ways for you to pk that will not violate the official rules or the implicit code of ethics of Northstar. Arena and self-defense are the most straightforward of these. However, actively pking in any manner begins to test the finer points of our rules and our members' patience. Many other clans see us as peaceful and non-aggressors, and because of that they do not pk our lower level members. If you begin to take a serious interest in pk you should probably consider leaving the clan for the sake of those members and the others who consider themselves Alyrian pacifists.
- Do I have to root?
- Not at all. There is no rooting requirement for Northstar. If you have the means (preferably a trunk) you may choose to root as you like, and if we are in the process of an upgrade we may ask our members to root, which is one way of contributing. However at this time it is strictly voluntary.
- How do I get promoted?
- While our rules page gives some outline of what we are looking for and what we consider to be the responsibility of the various ranks, we are looking for a number of factors. We like to see a character progressing (especially levelling), gradually putting the interests of the clan above their own in certain instances, helping other clannies where they are able, being active, and in general being a part of the clan in presence, action, thought, and talk. Promotions are more of the big picture of all these things combined, and most times we are slow in implementing them so that they mean the most to our members. If you feel you should be promoted, first have some patience that it has very likely crossed our minds, but that often due to time, progression, and other members, promotions do not always occur instantly. However, do not be afraid to bring it to the attention of one of the owners as there is no harm in our reconsidering your position in the clan. Often we three get very busy and may overlook promotions or be slow to react to new events.
- I am of low level, how can I contribute?
- As a low level character, the most important things you can do for yourself and the clan are to stay active and keep working on your character. The faster you progress into a strong and higher level character the more use you will be to your clannies later on. You'll also want to be as strong a part of Northstar's community as possible, offering your knowledge, help, and levelling assistance to any who can benefit from it. With a good attitude you are already contributing to the clan without having to give up a single thing.
- What do I tell someone who wants to join?
- It is a good idea to find out first if this player has an alt in another clan (which is not allowed) or likes to PK (which tends to be disagreeable). If they are neither of these, find out more about them. Try to find out if they are a good person, and likewise point them to the site so that they may look over our rules and history and see if we are an equally good fit for them. Bringing fresh blood in is always welcome while we have the slots, and we are very willing to give almost any eligible member a trial period.
- Can I have an alt?
- Alts themselves are not against our rules. However, you may not have any other character in another clan. As well, the character in Northstar should be your main character, and if this changes you should notify a leader and possibly request a switch-out when your new main character gets big enough. As well, if we see you are spending too much time on an alt when you have plenty of things you could be working on with your character in the clan, this will reflect badly on your activity and participation.
